World War

1914, there was tension built up to expose or cause the war. The European countries had made secret alliance before the war broke out, so
due to the alliances, some powers were forced to support policies followed by their partners. The Europeans were in competition for colonies in Africa. The great powers had strong militarism, with large armies and navies during the pre-war years. Battle plans greaten fear and hatred among them. Strong nationalism and acts such as nationalistic speechess and writing turned the coutries against eachother. The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Austria in 1914, was like the pull on the trigger. Within a few days, Germany stood by Austria, while Russia stepped forward to defend it small Balkan friend.

Russian Revolutuin

The Russian Revolution lasted from 1917 through 1918. It all started after World War one, which had weakened Russia's economy and Government. This also resulted to hunger and mass shortages in Russia. The people were fedup with these ways they were being forced to live, becasue how the Czar had lead them thorugh the war. It was Tsar Nicolas whose decision to take personal command of the army seemed to make him personally responsible for the defeats. So in March of 1917, the people revolted and Tsar lost his power in the streets of Russia.
The Revoultion begun, and the overthrowment of the Provisinal Government. The Soviet Union replaced the Russian Tsar System, and now Russia was consided a Communist country. The voliet communist group, the
Bolsheviks gained power in Russia. Their leader was Lenin and they followed the teaching of Karl Marx. Lenin told the people he was a great leader, and promised them "Peace, love, and bread."

During the time period from 1839 to 1842, there was corruption in China with Britain. These times were called, "The Opium Wars." Chinese allowed the British to access trade in the port of Canton. In China, tea was grown, and Britain was the buyers. They thought they needed to balance the trade and sell things back to China in exchange for the tea. So Britain introduced Opium. Opium is a drug grown in India, it's addicting and used in many strong medicines.
Then in 1
838, further efforts to trade opium were ended, and anyone who was trying to trade it would be killed. British merchants went to China on thier ships with guns destroying the coastal cities and the wars had begun. China was unprepared for the attack and was defeated. Forced to sign the Treaty of Nanjing in 1842, and the British supplementary Treaty of the Bogue in 1843. More ports were open to trading with the British in China.

Karl Marx was a German who fought in the worldwide revolution. He wanted workers to have the power in factories instead of landowners. Marx's ideas were so important and infleuntial that they were named communism. He believed that workers had the power so they would control the government. During the Industrial Revoluution social classes were very important. He felt that the Industrial Revolution allows the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.
